Classes

Our Classes are fun and full of exercise and moves that will keep you coming back for more. All of our Instructors are extremely friendly, highly certified and will provide motivation to help you achieve your fitness goals. We strive to continue our education so that we can offer the latest in fitness classes to provide a safe and enjoyable atmosphere.

The Decatur Athletic Club’s 2,000 square foot aerobic studio offers a large exercise area, a sophisticated sound system, and a suspended wood floor for an exhilarating workout. Classes throughout the day are led by certified instructors and include a wide range of aerobic programs and specialty classes. Instructors are highly qualified. All are certified and acquire continuing education credits to keep them updated in the aerobics field. The classes offer an environment that is safe, challenging, and fun!

Classes Included

Spinning sessions are designed to be a great cardiovascular workout for everyone, whether you are a beginner to the fitness program or an experienced cyclist. Set to music, the sessions are led by our certified SPIN instructors. Our unique spin facility is designed for the experience of spinning and accommodates up to 20 riders. There is no charge for Spin. You must sign up prior to class to reserve your bike. Sign up at the front desk no longer than one day prior to the class. There will be a $5.00 no-show fee for those who have a reservation and do not cancel an hour before class.

Indo-Row has been dubbed “The Perfect Calorie Burn”! Indo-Row utilizes 84% of your muscle mass with ZERO IMPACT. This is a full-body workout that emphasizes 60% from your legs, 20% from your core, and 20% from your arms.

Muscle groups worked include:

Abdominals, Biceps, Rhomboids,Trapezius, Latissimus Dorsi, Lower Back, Gluteals, Hamstrings, Quadriceps, Calves and Soleus. Rowing classes are typically 40 minutes long and consist of “Skills and Drills”, “Waves”, Recovery and, finally, Races. There will be a $5.00 no-show fee for those who have a reservation and do not cancel an hour before class.

Beginners are welcome! We spend extra time in each class with beginners while the more advanced students can work at their own pace. Please don’t feel intimidated if you are a beginner. We will be patient and encouraging. We offer modifications for all stretches and poses. Please wear warm, comfortable, loose clothing to class. Bare feet are recommended, but not required. Please attend regular yoga classes to prepare for the advanced yoga classes. Classes will focus on the mind/body connection improving your mental and physical health. It will enhance inner silence, harmony, and peace of mind. Yoga is an excellent cross-training routine for all.

Yoga

Hot Fusion Yoga:  Designed for all levels. A vigorous, more athletic approach to yoga techniques characterized by flowing poses focusing on strength, agility, balance and flexibility in a heated room. B C T 60 minutes Instructors: Shelli Reinhardt, Annette Russo Yoga Studio

Restorative Yoga: A relaxing style of yoga that is intended to be healing and nurturing for the body.   BCT Instructor Linda Klemm Yoga Studio

Warrior Heat Advanced Yoga: Advanced poses and moves with temperatures 90+. Bring plenty of water and hydrate before class. BCT Instructor: Karylee Wike 60 minutes Yoga Studio

BOOM!: – Rhythmic Cardio/strength class performed with drum stick like equipment. Lots of Fun! 30min class Instructor: Linda Klemm   Aerobic Studio

Guns, Guts & Glutes: This class targets these major muscle groups with ever-changing exercises and sequencing combined with cardio intervals. No choreography here. Options for all fitness levels!! A C T 60 minutes Instructor: Shelli Reinhardt Aerobic Studio

Piloxing: A combination of pilates, boxing, and ballet. Very easy to follow but is a hard workout. A B C T 60 minutes Instructor:   Aerobic Studio

PiYo: PiYo combines the muscle-sculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility advantages of yoga at a quicker pace. B C T F 30 minutes Instructor: Crystal Kitchens Aerobic Studio

Tabata Boot Camp: – Fun, Fast and Furious! High intensity interval training. More is not better, better is better. Class is super fun, time flies by and results happen quickly. ABCFT Instructors: Mimi Walters, Heidi Reynolds Gym

There are many benefits of water aerobics. Not only does water support 80% of your weight providing buoyancy to support your body weight it takes strain off of your back, bones and joints while you work out. It also is a good source for cardiovascular conditioning, and can improve flexibility, and it is Fun! Come out and try a water class.

BootCamp splash: Stations are set up to provide intervals of cardio and strength moves. Class goes by fast and is a great workout. ABCFT Instructor: Amy Cleary DAC POOL

Tabata Splash: Based on the Tabata concept of short burst of high energy with recovery times producing a high caloric burn. ABCFT Instructors, Tracy Hewitt, Amy Cleary DAC POOL

 

All our YAH (Young at heart) classes promote  flexibility, strength, and balance.  All our YAH classes are  great for those 60 and older or those recovering from injury.

EXTRA Classes

Join us for 60 minutes of heart pumping, butt kicking, body forming weight training using weighted barbells. Come get ripped!

Standup paddle boarding can offer a fun and relaxing activity that mostly anyone can do, it is also one of the best workouts out there for absolutely anyone. And it’s no wonder why. It is relatively easy for anyone to do, and the health benefits gained from paddle boarding are tremendous! Standing Paddle board is full body workout that Improves balance, Low impact, reduces stress and improves endurance.

The cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members.

Pilates is a conditioning program that improves strength tone, flexibility, posture, coordination, and muscle control. Each exercise is designed to open the joints involved and release tension while building strength. Pilates requires personal supervision; making it one of the safest workouts you can take. Pilates elongates and strengthens developing muscles, flexibility and join mobility. A body with balanced strength and flexibility has reduced risk of injury. Rather than pursuing an unrealistic goal of having the “perfect body” try developing a healthy self image and a nice shape through the attainment of better posture, enhanced coordination, increased strength and improved flexibility.
